Mission Statement:
OUR SOIL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rural character, working farmlands, natural resources, and historical heritage of Okaloosa County. We advocate for the preservation of agricultural lands and oppose incompatible development that threatens the viability of farming and the integrity of our community. Through civic engagement, legal action, and public education, we promote responsible growth and defend the long-term interests of residents, farmers, and future generations.
More about us:
Our-Soil.org is operated by a Florida Non-Profit Corporation – Okaloosa United Residents for Saving Our Irreplaceable Land, Inc.(OUR-SOIL)
We are a group of concerned citizens fighting to preserve the Rural Character and Agricultural lands of North Okaloosa County, Florida. Our founding members are being directly affected by inappropriate development in the Baker Area.
We are currently suing Okaloosa County to stop an inappropriate development on Buck Ward Road in Baker, Florida. Even though it does not meet the requirements of the law, it was approved by the County.
We support appropriate, responsible growth in adherence to the goals, objectives and intent of the Okaloosa County Comprehensive Plan and Florida State Statutes.
We believe local government must enforce the law pertaining to development as written and intended and as required by law. We also believe that local residents must be treated with the same level of respect and inclusion in the process, under the law, as developers are. There should not be a two tier system. We believe that local government should serve the citizens of the community, not other outside groups.
We are also implementing effective citizen involvement in local government and informing the broader community in order to make it truly a government of, by, and for the people.
We know that many of our fellow Okaloosa County Residents share our concerns about inappropriate development, over development and the loss our Rural Character and Agricultural Lands. We are doing something about it. By supporting us, you can make a real difference that will help our entire community in the long run. Take a moment to get to know more about us and our cause.
